The foreground street was blocked in using the same blues in the sky but slightly grayed down with Burnt Sienna. I also washed these colors over the warm reflection colors already in the road and then lifted some of the darks back off with a thirsty brush. I then went back into the building area and reflections to add details and drop in all of the dark details. This is very important because it is the darks around the lights that give the illusion of glowing light. I also added the pedestrians at this stage. At this point I put the painting away for a few days. When I came back it struck me that the painting was way to busy. So I went back into the sky and covered a number of the upper clouds with more dark layers which helped a lot. The painting no matter what is going to be a bit busy because of all the details the client wanted to capture. I think this was held together however with color harmony in the sky and street. |
