Traveling extensively throughout Southeast
Asia, Micronesia and South America, Greg Elliott has drawn on
a wealth of cultural experiences and imagery to inspire him.
Greg was born in Ventura, California. He graduated from Cal Poly
San Luis Obispo in 1994 with a degree in Graphic Communications
and a minor in art. He considers himself, however, to be largely
a self-taught artist, spending the past 13 years perfecting his
painting methods. Working with transparent watercolors, he utilizes
a painstaking layering technique to capture the excitement of
color and light in his subjects.
"I am not interested in reproducing
the world around me exactly as I see it," Greg says. "What
excites me is to look at a subject in a new and dynamic way.
My style reflects my amazement at the colors, textures and action
all around us. Those elements are what I try to convey to the
viewer. In addition, I am drawn by the beauty and color of the
Pacific Islands so I have recently made Saipan my new home."
Greg has won a number of awards in
Southern California art competitions. In addition, he has produced
numerous commissions for both private and commercial clients
worldwide.
